A hand-bound, kaleidoscopic publication that reflects on my personal history, memories of, and relationship to salt. The book transitions between short salt-centered vignettes, bolstered by research into the scientific, historical, and cultural significance of salt.
Rather than discrete sections or chapters that can be clearly delineated in a traditional table of contents, the writing of the book takes a freeform and non-linear approach. The reader may learn on one page that the word “salary” comes from the Latin word for salt, and on the next, I recall memories from my trip to Catalina Island years ago. This floating style to the writing is reflected in the layouts, which feature highly varied and more experimental positioning of the text, while still hinting at the logic of a grid. All photographs in the book are my own.
