This publication shines a spotlight on the Kitchen Goddess through a culinary community organization inspired by her compassion, strength, and resilience.
The branding system for the organization features a curved and friendly logotype, an earth-toned color palette, texture overlays I created using soy sauce on paper, tablecloth patterns that I hand-dyed and photographed, stock photography of circular food items shown in cross-section, and other circular motifs to emphasize the organization’s mission of creating community and gathering around the table—where all are invited, and everyone has a seat.
The Kitchen Goddess is often seen as a minor deity compared to her husband, the Kitchen God. I was inspired to by the unjust treatment I feel she received both in her origin story and in her current legacy in China’s deeply patriarchal society to create this organization in her honor.
I utilized culinary-themed elements, such a hand-dyed tablecloth and soy sauce patterns, to create texture and depth in the designs and the brand identity.
